Clairvoyant Challenge 2007
Clairvoyant Business Options is a limited
liability company set up to to deliver a range of public
services to the Nigerian community.
A key objective of the company is the
development of local talent within the Nigerian community.
Take a moment to ponder and one would realise
that despite the thousands of IT professionals and
technology consultants we have in Nigeria today, the country
has only produced very few nationally accepted products but
no International or intercontinental products. Consequently,
the software portfolio of the average company in Nigeria has
less than 5% local content.
Local businesses have little choice but to
purchase technology products from foreign OEMs based in the
US, Europe and Asia
Studies show that the problem is not in our
inability to write complex and functional applications as
many Nigerians with local training have successfully
established themselves as stars in the fields of IT locally
and internationally.
The
problem, we identified at Clairvoyant Business Options is
more related to:
–
The inability of the local developers to
transform software prototypes into marketable products,
–
The inability of local developers to organise
themselves into business entities that can compete with
international businesses for a piece of the global
technology solutions (market)
–
The inability
of the local developers to demonstrate that their technology
products meet international performance standards
While it is important to promote Nigeria’s
culture (as many corporate bodies do now with their
sponsorship of cultural arts and music competition), it is
absolutely crucial for us to take up development and
promotion of technical capability of the Nigerian people.
To this end, Clairvoyant Business Options
introduces the Clairvoyant Challenge - A software
competition that is designed to excite and stimulate the
Nigerian technology solution developers into creativity and
achievement.
